U donje ladice stavite plastične zdjele i žlice.

Ingrid Periša, the author of Prekratak dan – a blog that presents advice on preparing food, decorating and maintaining garden and other daily activities we still have something to learn about, will soon join Medenjak’s blogging team. She was born in Rijeka, where she finished grammar school. Her college days she had spent in Zagreb, after which she returned to the seaside and has been working in Novi list as a graphic editor since 2002.

Nowadays she resides in suburbs of Opatija, in the countryside, surrounded by greenery and beaufitul sea view. She is a mother of cheerful twins, who are a center of her world. Her days is filled with self-assigned obligations, which are sometimes more than a person can fulfill. From there stems the name of her blog – Prekratak dan (A day too short). She hops by the garden to replant flowers, runs back into the house to turn off the pie in the oven, checks children’s homework, and so on until she turns in. She started writing her blog so that everything she had cooked, baked and decorated doesn’t go down the drain.

For starters we have conducted an interview with this creative and clever mum, in which we tried to find out about the topics she covers in her blog Prekratki dan, and what she has in mind for Medenjak’s readers!

Why have you decided to start a blog Prekratak dan?

Every day I cook in my kitchen, and for my girls and by order, I prepare desserts for theme parties, bake cakes, so I have, at the urging of friends and family, decided to start a blog. I am committed to it, so it is my second job. I take photos of almost everything I prepare, and I publish it on my page, and there is a lot of work when it comes to that.

One can find various dishes and different ways to do something on your blog…What are you most excited about?

I publish what I cook. Every day I prepare fresh cooked meals for my family, so it is only logical that I publish salty dishes, recipes for winter stores, and I like going to the garden and sharing photos with my readers. I would like to have more of such advice-giving posts. Every day we have a dessert at home as well, but I don’t bake cakes every day.

I like preparing cakes, although they take up a lot of time. Usually I make them for theme birthday parties, so I have a lot of work while doing figurines out of fondant.

You are mother of two girls, twins. What do they like preparing or eating the most?

They have been with me in the kitchen ever since I can remember and they help me with preparations every day. Above all, they like to eat sweets, and they could live on it. They often complain that they could eat more like other children, because I often introduce new groceries based mostly on vegetables. They are completely different when it comes to choices in food. Actually, we all like different dishes in the family. They like a lot of meat and I like vegetables, so it is very difficult to reach an agreement.

What is your favourite dish?

As I have mentioned, I like to eat a lot of vegetables. Mum has planted a garden and I get almost everything from her. I like wild vegetables that grows in the nature and in garden in front of my house. This year we have eaten lots of nettle combined with millet in a thick soup prepared without stewing.

Advice related to garden maintenance, which you publish on your blog, comes in handy in spring. How important is your garden to you?

Garden planted by my mother is very important, as well as the one in front of my house where I have a lawn and flowers. It contains asparagus, nettle, I also have two elder trees, so I have recently made an elder juice. I have lots of flowers, mostly perennials and I love taking care of it, planting and replanting it.

How do readers react to your recipes?

Reactions of everyone around me are excellent. I constantly get feedback, for now mostly from acquaintances and friends who cook using my recipes, but I would love to get photos fo dishes made by my recipes.

Which kitchen appliance you cannot imagine your kitchen without?

Without the immersion blender, because I always mix green vegetables. If they stumble upon some thicker peduncle, they don’t want to eat, so I mix it to know there is no „danger“.

Do you think that children should be included in preparing food?

Yes, I think that children should be included in preparing food from an early age. At first they will crawl on the floor. Put plastic bowls and spoons into lower drawers. When they proudly take out a bowl, put raw pasta in it so they can play. Around the age of two, if not earlier, give children to mix flour and water and make little cookies that you will bake.  Teach children to clean after themselves. My children participated in preparing food while they were still in their feeding chairs. I gave them immense freedom, and in return I got creative children who can nowadays bake cakes, sew and draw by themselves. Children will be creative if you let them, do not hamper them, have patience, and they will repay you in many ways.

What are you going to prepare for Medenjak?

I have a lot of ideas for kindergarten Medenjak. It will not only be food, but also various handicrafts, with a special accent on children and parents working together. Often parents don’t know how to have fun with their children. Holidays are coming, and they grant us inspiration for various ideas. For starters, you can check some of them out on these links:
